After relaying my concerns of the heavy action of my new Petrof III to my dealer, he has conversed with Geneva and they are having one of the finest tech's in my area come over next week and do whatever it takes to make me happy. smile
Her name is Jane Edwards, daughter of LaRoy Edwards (of Yamaha fame), and after talking with her on the phone, I'm confident that she will get this action closer to what I want. Her twin sister Judy is the inventor of the Edwards string cover by the way. I was thinking of getting one but am afraid it will muffle the sound even more as the piano sits in a heavily carpeted room. Have any of you a string cover and can comment on any sound alterations caused by it?

Of course this work will not be on my dime and I believe my dealer is an honest man who is just trying to make up for not prepping this piano properly before sale. I hope to post next week with good results.

Jane finally came out today, took apart my piano, and did some key easing as well as lube the center action pins.
Something she showed me before hand, she pulled out a hammer, held it upside down, and did a swing test. The hammer is supposed to make 7 swings before it stops, mine were making 2. After her work was done, they were swinging 7 times.
The action is now much easier than before. It is a night and day difference. I think I am going to be very happy with what I have now but will play it for a few weeks and then make another assessment. If I still need further work, she thinks shaving some wood behind the hammers would be the next step. Right now, I'm very happy and allegro play is much easier.

I also asked her if she brought her WD40 and she said no, she only brings that when she needs to work on Estonias! smile Take that ghost! smile

Rockit,

That's great news. Particularly appreciated your mentioning her demo of how a hammer is supposed to work.

That this was such a straightforward adjustment stenghtens my opinion re having an R.P.T. evaluate an instrument before signing a sales agreement.
