Just put my first Opus 7 Piano Disc system on the floor. As I was learning the system, a client that purchased a B from me several months ago came in to schedule a tuning and we learned the system together. He just left with the invoice in hand. We are picking up his B for the retrofit on thursday. This thing is incredible. Disclavier is in biiiiiiig trouble!

I've heard it really pricey. Can you give us a price range?

Actually, we're selling it for not too much more than a fully loaded PD228 system. But the new features and technology are incredible. Definitely should be added to Forbes' "Worth Every Penny" list.

Ok, so what did the old system cost and with what features at that cost? You said the Opus 7 is about the same?

Opus 7 is retrofitable now.

Luke's Dad, I take it you weren't at Yamaha's Disklavier showing @ NAMM this year.

(I was planning on writing this up as part of the M&H factory tour report... but this seems like a good thread to put it.)

If "Opus 7" is what I saw in M&H's factory back in the May 10 tour, yes, I was (and still am) impressed.

The controller box is no longer attached to the piano under the keyboard or have unsightly wires that stuck out like a soar thumb. It's WIRELESS[/b]!!!

It's 802.11b. The installation I saw, installed on an M&H BB, was remotely controlled by software that ran on a Tablet PC. The small, black, Palm Pilot sized wireless transceiver was very discreetly tucked away underneath the music rack. If it weren't for the green LED on that transceiver, I would not have noticed that there is a player system installed on that piano (not without having to crawl under the piano anyway).

The next step would be to make the user interface more web/HTML-centric and less proprietary. It seems the PianoDisc people are driving towards using more open standards and commercial off-the-shelf components -- a healthy tendency, IMHO.

I have the old PDS-128, and that wireless system really got me itching to upgrade.

(I did ask about upgrading -- the Burgetts' response was that they're still busy training technicians to install the new system... and they haven't got to my area yet.)

I saw it, looks pretty good, but the promise of having them out this summer is bogus. One engineer I talked to said that it wasn't going to be realistic until maybe the January show in 2005. I also saw all the Yamaha engineers with their digital cameras trying to sneak photos of the Opus system at the show as well ;\) . The other thing is that Piano Disc already has a few more updates and features ready to be introduced before Yamaha even catches up.

It was always meant to be retrofit capable. They just wanted to make sure that it would only be by factory trained and certified technicians. There is going to be alot more exclusivity with this product. It's caused alot of contention because many many regular Piano Disc Dealers and Installers aren't being allowed to carry it. The non-retrofit thing is coming from Mason & Hamlin dealers that aren't cerified for Opus installations but can order them factory installed on Masons.

It was never set to come out in Summer. I was told winter from the get go.

If it was due out any sooner, I would be far more forthright with some specifics.
