Hi. I need information on Kincaid Pianos. I am going to possibly get an old Kincaid piano for my child to practice on. I have read the forum and have gotten the impression that they are not good. However, I looked at one at our local music store for sale - and out of all the choices in our price range - it sounded very good. Who was Kincaid made by and who bought them? Does somebody still make them? Are they really the worst piano made other than that Pearl brand? Thanks. I am clueless at this point - other than the information I have researched on the web and on this forum. Any and all comments are appreciated as they will enlighten me - I'm sure.

Kincaid was made by Kincaid Pianos, also known as the Grand Piano Company. They were owned by Dennis Kincaid and made very inexpensive, entry-level pianos. They eventually went out of business in the 80's.

I toured their factory in Morgantown NC (SC?) in the 70's.

Today, most are not holding up well and need constant service. I would keep shopping.

Thank you. What is a good beginning brand for an 8 and a half year old to practice on? We don't want to invest tons because right now he likes it - but - when he has to start actually practicing on a regular basis - who knows? We want to be able to recoop our money either way - whether we sell or upgrade. Thanks again.

We are also looking at a Wurlitzer from 1969 - one owner - Spinet. Another option suggested to us is a new Yamaha Digital Piano - at Sams - about 600.00 - again at Sams. A Kawai we looked at was 1200. However - it has so many cool gadgets that we fear he would not practice but play with the cool gadgets - it is fun.

Go to a reputable, local dealership and talk about renting, with the option of buying. If it is working out after 6 months buy a decent piano. If not, send it back and save your money.
