We get the inserts and magazine sections a day ahead of time here. So I was lucky enough to see the 6 page color spread on Mason and Hamlin. Bruce Clark and the Burgett brothers are covered and the photos are wonderful. I even recognize a few faces of the factory workers from tours past. The link below will get you there, but it seems that tomorrow's issue is not up yet. Try again in the morning to see it. Enjoy! http://www.boston.com/news/globe/magazine/

That's awesome. Mason & Hamlin is one of *The Premier Pianos"; they run an impressive shop, and everyone at the factory tour was simply terrific. I'm happy to see M&H getting some well deserved publicity! Jeanne W

It's up! You can access it easily from the link above and the article called GRAND PLANS. There is a nice video showing the factory and a 7 page article.
You will have to register with the Boston Globe to get past page 2 though.
Great story. Congratulations to the Burgetts!
I bet the Globe won't know what hit 'em, when PW members access it!!!

Thanks, Lilylady on the video tip! It was just like being there!
It makes me more excited about the Cape Party where we will get to play three M+H's all within walking distance!

It was nice to see the article, but a shame to see how many mistakes they made in describing technical aspects of the pianos. Geez!

I have the hardcopy of the Boston Globe magazine where the Hamlin name is spelled correctly and while I'm familiar with the history of the M&H company, I was surprised there weren't any pics of Gary or Kirk posted in the article. I watched the video and assumed the online article was a dup of the hardcopy.??? Besides all the pics of the workers, there was one pic of Bruce Clark, who besides being the piano engineer is the outstanding tour guide for when the PW members gather. Although he did have a phone receiver up to his ear, I almost didn't recognize him without his customary headset!! So, here's a pic of Bruce; And a pic of Kirk Burgett. Anyone know who the blonde lady is??? Three cheers to the M&H group for their outstanding achievements.

Maybe they should have named it "a" -in small case- (pun intended )

RE: a progression that goes B, A, AA, BB, CC doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

One could argue (based on chronologic ordering) that "alpha" might be appropriate. That would allow a lot of room of new models up to 5'8".
Of course, aleph might be another possibility, as well...

Great article. I didn't know they were such a small company. Somehow, I thought they were bigger.
