Fender Perfection Piano Care
As the saying goes, you can never be too thin, too rich, or have enough piano polish, so I decided to take advantage of the free shipping offer from PW (until 1/28/07) and purchase Fender Perfection Piano Care to add to my collection of polishes.
Below is my rating of this product AS COMPARED TO Mequire's Tech Wax - my current favorite. As such, a grade of 'B' means the Fender Perfection Piano Care rates AS WELL AS Mequire's Tech Wax.
Please note that my judgements are based on observation only. Also, this product is made for satin and high-gloss LACQUER pianos. I did not realize that at the time I bought it. As a result, this review is based on results obtained on a high-gloss POLYESTER ebony finish. I used the Luminescent Finish Clarifier followed by Radiance Finish Reflections; they seemed to work best in concert with one another.
Ease of Application: B-
This doesn't spread quite as easily as other products, but it does go on fairly easily.
Ease of Removal: C-
There were two issues with removing this product:
a) The removal cloth had to constantly be turned as it never really seemed to completely dry and therefore "cake-up" on the removal cloth.
b) Hazing - A haze formed after just one day. It was easily removed with a cloth and seems to be gone for good.
The hazing issue could have been caused by other polish products that were on the piano, that is not an unheard of situation. Still, this is not the easiest product to remove.
Powdering: B-
The refers to the powder or dust left behind by the product as it is being removed.
Gloss Improvement: A+ This is one of the two areas this product really kicked butt. I thought the piano was shiny before. The optics are incredible and the piano seems to give off its own sparkle. Scratch Removal: B/A
I gave this a B for the removal of fine scratches - it did as well as Mequire's Tech Wax (which is quite good). It also removed quite a bit of a "blemish" that was behind the fallboard that no other product has ever made a dent at removing.
Dust repellency: A+
Another area this product kicks butt big time. This is very noticable. The amount of dusting required is way down.
What I did not test was the Opulent Preservation Spray. This is a spray you are supposed to use "frequently". Maybe it's good if you have kids or people who can't keep their greasy mitts off the piano.
It's a bit pricey, but this has now moved up to being my favorite piano polish. If your piano OCD and insist your piano looks as good as it sounds, this is for you. Just make sure you purchase a high-quality (not a bag of 100 from Walmart) microfiber cloths. Search in the archives if you are unaware of the differences. Or buy the Ultimate Wipe Detailing Polish Cloth from PW.

I believe that Fender buys their stuff from Mequires.

Thanks for the report Derick II I've been trying to get some feedback. Unfortunately I don't own a "real" piano, so it didn't do much for my Yamaha P-80, although it did do a nice job on my Hammond XK-3. Steve is correct, it is made for Fender by Mequiar's. The Free Shipping offer is still in effect[/b], and may be extended (I bought a lot of it:-) You can see it here... Fender Perfection Piano Care Kit You need to enter FREESHIPPING in the coupon box during check out. [sorry, U.S. and P.R. residents only]

I know this is in marketing language, but it answers the question... For more than 100 years, Meguiar's has been formulating and producing products for fine furniture and this vast experience has allowed for a truly unique line of care products just for your piano. Whether you want to preserve the rich glow of a satin finish or restore the incredible reflections and clarity to your high-gloss lacquer[/b], this kit will far exceed your expectations. From Opulent Preservation Spray, when frequent light dusting and regular maintenance is desired, to Luminescent Finish Clarifier, when deeper restoration is required, use Fender Perfection Piano Care products to treat your surface with kid gloves and loving care.
