Mostly it affects the sound, particularly in the bass. Some smaller pianos have compact actions, which affect the touch somewhat, but usually not so much that it makes a difference in how one plays. So if you do not want to get a bigger piano, it will not affect your playing.

I agree only in part with BDB. 108 cm is about the smallest piano built by German companies these days. In other words, that size of piano can be considered the entry level or basic minimum for halfways serious piano playing. A taller piano will give you better playability, touch and tone. Most importantly, for your level of playing, it will allow you to access more levels of dynamic expression. More musicality. The instrument will be more inspiring to play, it will be more responsive, musically.

So yes, for me there is little question that a bigger piano would afffect your playing.

One more answer - and that is a grand piano will likely affect your playing more than a larger upright. The grand action generally will permit faster repetition and a better sense of control than one can obtain from most uprights.

I used to play on a 43" Charles Walter that had the full studio action. As I understand, it is the same as any full upright.

Just make sure that the action is full studio. I don't believe that any larger upright would have any better action (certainly better sound).

I'd certainly agree with the 'tone' part but is the touch and playability really going to be much different if they're all vertical (not dropped spinet) actions?

If you have budget go for tallest upright. Opt for 131 or 132 cm upright. It's sound a good as grand piano.
