Could someone tell me the age and possible trade in value,if any, of a Wurlitzer 745533. Earliest recorded tuning was 1979. It's our church piano and i will be shopping tomorrow for a new piano. Just wondered if it would be worth trading in. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

It would be from 1961. The trade-in value depends on the dealer. It probably would not be much over what you could negotiate for a new piano, but still worth doing if you do not want to deal with getting rid of the old piano. On the other hand, if there is some family in the church that could use a piano, or if someone knows one, it would do your souls good to give it to them.

The church wanted to first try to trade it. If that was not possible we would take sealed bids on it. It's a pretty piano but doesn't stay tuned.

If it will not stay in tune, then ask the dealer to get rid of it for you. You should not try to sell it. It would not be quite as bad as selling a car without brakes, but it would be close.

If I had a 1961 Wurlitzer spinet that didn't hold a tune and was buying a new piano I would not even mention the old piano to the dealer.

If you "trade it in" he take it and offer you X dollars trade in value.

But he is just going to quietly add to the new piano's price what his costs him to haul the old one to the dump.

Example:

With NO trade in:
$15,000 final price

With trade in:
$15.600 price for new piano
$500 off for trade in allowance
$15,100 final price

You are paying the dealer to solve a problem for you.
That's fine, as long as the quotes you get to haul it to the dump are over $100, which they well may be.
Dealers probably wait till they have 5 or 10 ready to dump to get a better price.

Might be able to find a local tech who could use some of the piano's parts, but it should probably be offered free for the hauling away. I have a Wurlitzer spinet , vintage about 1962 (we bought it new in 1963, or rather my parents did), and I grew up playing this piano. At this point although unlike yours, mine holds a tuning quite well - despite having been moved sixteen times. I really don't think it's worth much $$. But given that it does stay in tune and all the parts work, I will try to sell it locally. If it didn't hold a tuning, I wouldn't bother, despite it being a pretty little piece of furniture.
