One of the worst things about the Iraq invasion in my view is that it used up an enormous amount of financial and political (both domestic and global) capital that could have been much more effectively used in the war against terrorism. The recent sories about Iran's apparently active involvement in 911 planning underscore that point. Our options in dealing with Iran are far more limited than they would have been had this information come to light before we invaded Iraq. In fact, one of the possible if not likely outcomes of our invasion is that Iran will have heightened (if not dominating) influence in Iraq.
