I created the Coffee Room so members would have a place to discuss topics other than the piano or music.

I did not create it as a platform for anyone with an agenda, nor is it to be used for anything...
Inflammatory
Derogatory
Hurtful
Mean-spirited

Lately some of the threads in here have been reaching a new low.
Kick it back up a couple of notches folks, or I will turn it into a moderated forum where nothing gets posted without being approved.

Remember, this is still a FAMILY web site, including parents and their children.

If nothing else, please read my remarks in the last post of this thread...

Not singling out anyone in particular.

I've received more Moderator Alerts in the past couple of weeks than I have in the past year.

Most pertain to the Coffee Room.

I realize people have the option of not reading what is posted (except when the title is in their face).
But, people are naturally curious, or a thread may start out innocently enough.

This is after all, a family-oriented PIANO forum.
I have nothing against the CR, a lot of good discussions happen here. But lately, things have been getting out of hand and people find it offensive.
I don't want people feeling offended when they visit my web site.

reminds me of the privatemailbox war of 2003. (which is what I called it).

I think alliances are fine. However, lest the baggage of overuse assail us, or Frank, remember over-relugation could instrangle the free flow of thinking (which in my opinion is the greatest place about this room)

......like rooted grass in the stream of consciousness,

......like all those detrimental guidelines in our public school system.

obliquely, and certainly not advocating impoliteness or rudeness with the above....

She was wily and powerful, witty and wisely made use of all resources at her disposal.

She was a general I believe...with corporals and battalions at her disposal.

there's really no story... just whenever I argued with her, suddenly I was arguing with her troups..... and then they started forming their own phalanxes with their established underground network. She had at least 6 in her employ.

...nothing wrong with that really, .

maybe I'm paranoid.

I personally think some of the things that Gryphon has posted are way over the top.

I refer to the recent topic titled with the "N" word. Also he had a little rash of posts using variations of the word "jiggy". He was pretty obviously alluding to a derogatory term for black people.

Both shocked me as being offensive and inappropriate.

I agree with WynnBear too. It makes me sad to think of some newbie coming on here and seeing garbage like that. Is that how our PW community wants to be seen? Not me! I know of one person who has sworn off on this place because they are disgusted. I'm just not ready to give up on it yet because I think there are a lot of great people on here too.

Obviously you didn't read very closely as that is *not* what I was doing. In fact I thought I was clear in my questioning of Cindy for her use of it as I don't listen to rap music or watch BET videos. I guess I'm culturally deprived.

As for my thread earlier today, Frank, I'm sorry you felt the need to take it down. It is certainly not my intent to cause you any grief or more work. This forum censors words it does not permit with asterisks, and I did not use any of those.

Also, it was up for quite a while without objection from you (although you may not have seen it), and with agreement in content from most. I thought that I had made my point clearly, if rather bluntly, backed up by news stories and images of the exact wording I used, that the liberals in the country, the left, through major media such as the Washington Post, have been making racial slurs in public print and on the public airwaves against Condi Rice and Colin Powell (to name just two). And that the other liberals in the country have given them a pass because it fits in with their political ideology. They haven't complained because they think the same thing.

That was the thrust of my posts and my only intent. I'm sorry to have caused you any problems.

Wynnbear:

Gryphon:

 Quote:

I'm not sure what is going on here.

I used a subject header with "The Ohio Court Gets Jiggy With It." That thread referred to a ruling having to do with the election.

I must confess I have no idea what "jiggy" really means. I heard it in a Will Smith rap song once, but I didn't think it was a racial slur. I figured it meant "dance" or some such, based on the lyrics of the song I heard. If I caused offense, I apologize, but I have no idea if I did.

Now, Gryphon wrote a header or post after the election also using the word "jiggy." I don't remember the context; he was, erm, stating his pleasure with the election results. I wasn't offended by "jiggy," although I didn't especially appreciate the gloat. So I don't understand Gryphon's explanation above.

If anything else occurred that Gryphon or Wynnbear are discussing, I must have missed it. I didn't read much here that was posted after the election.

Cindy -- who didn't know what "bling bling" was for a while, and who has probably just muddled things further
