And there's unfortunately even more wind and rain on the way, a LOT more rain, heavy, wet rain. I envy you people getting snow. I wish it would snow here.

Tell that to those people living down south. Hell, they probably want it to rain 24/7.

Then again, the walk isn't very big so it's never been too much work at my house.

The wind snatched my soul and sent it soaring toward the sea And I followed as best I could, over hill, bridge, and tree. But as I went went along the wind took other parts of me; Leg, arm, and hand all went soaring toward the sea. Until only my head was left, bouncing pathetically In vain pursuit of my body, which I could no longer see. "Poor thing," said the wind, and rather mercifully Took my head and sent it soaring with the rest of me. I reassembled myself slowly and carefully, And then I was happy, I was whole, I was me; But...damnit, I was still soaring toward the sea.

The wind's coming up here too. THe trees are starting to sway - what Seattle gets, we get! Only it turns to snow over the mountains.

Is there anyone here living in a potential flood area? I'm not in one myself, but there are several areas around Seattle with flood warnings in effect right now. I am hoping against all hope that the weatherman is wrong and we will have a nice Thanksgiving Day tomorrow.

The Nooksack is supposed to blow out of it's banks sometime tonight. that means the Dairy Queen downtown will be waterfront property for a few days. It's raining horses and cows, and walking in my yard feels like walking on a sponge. Our piano teachers front yard and his neighbors landscaping was washing away when we went for our lesson tonight. It seems there is a problem with a water run-off containment pond above him. Like, somebody forgot to hook it up to the containment pond below it. (which was empty) Hopefully, his driveway will still be there in the morning. Yikes. The only problem I'm having is with earthworms. Uhg. Jodi

So Jodi, are you able to take a rowboat through the drivethrough at Dairy Queen yet? How are you doing up in Vancouver, ProPiano?
It's just drizzling here in Seattle right now, but that'll probably turn into heavy sheets of rain by this evening. (Fingers crossed that it won't though).

I see sun, and the earlier drizzle is dying away. I hope it will stay away, but unfortunately I know that this can only be the calm before the storm...

One question - does it snow at all in Seattle?

Yeaaaa!!! The rain never returned, and if I go outside right now, I can actually see STARS!!! Hardly a cloud in the sky. This is the TRUE calm before the storm!!! Googlism: Yes, it does snow in Seattle. Last winter we had two good snowfalls that actually lasted more than a day! (I'll post a picture of an enormous snowball I made during one of them). It merely freezes over a lot more here than it snows though. We also had one very small snowfall before Thanksgiving last year that stuck around for three days, but that was less than an inch at best.

It was only a matter of days after that snowfall had left us that we got another one: The view from one of my friend's apartment deck: The view from the front porch at my Grandparent's house: The view from the front porch at my house:

And as a small note about snow in Seattle: it doesn't always last very long. A couple of years ago it dupmed one day and by the around 9 PM I measured about 9 inches of snow in my back yard and it was still falling. By the very next afternoon, nothing but a few small patches here and there remained. So when we get snow that lasts for two days or more, that's pretty good for us! Each of the two pictured above from last winter lasted for about 3 days. (BTW, the pictures you see dated December 31 were taken at around 1 AM, not near midnight and the beginning of 2004).

To those of you in flood zones: I heard there's some heavy flooding on the way, now that the snowlevel is raising and all that fresh snow that just fell in the mountains is melting and there are very heavy rains and a storm on the way. How are you all doing? If it rains here like they say it's going to, I wouldn't be surprised if the streets in front of my house flood (they do that every once in a while when the storm drains fill up during very heavy rains) but I know that's nothing compared to what you could get! Hope you and your property make it through okay!
