Hi. I was just wondering if anyone here have
played Schubert's "the erlking" together with a singer? I am currently playing it with a friendsinger, and darn it is fun.
It's the funniest i've ever played.
What do you think of it?

If you can do the repeated octaevs in triplets at quarter note = 160 without getting tired, then you have my admiration because there are about 10 people in the world who can.

I love that song (not piece ;\) ). Those repeated octaves are crazy, but what sucks is that I can't find a singer good enough to sing it so there's no point in learning it. Maybe I'll learn the Liszt transcription of it for solo piano. That thing is insane!

I once did a MIDI sequence of the Erlking based on the music from a Schaum lesson book. I added lots of layers and effects, like wind and storm, galloping hoofs. Low and high choirs, etc. For those who don't know, it is a story of a man riding through the night to seek help for his dying boy. During the climax He hears the "erlking" (grim reaper)calling for him. He pleads to his father, who rides on faster. In the end, the piece becomes serene as the boy dies. My daughter never wants me to play it as it too sad \:\(
