Hello everyone!

I have just completed my first _written_ composition. The previous pieces I posted have been improvised on-the-fly pieces which I could never play again the same way. This time thought I've written down everything, and here is the recording, that is almost, but not quite, entirely unlike the sheet music!

The main inspiration for this was Chopin's nocturne opus 9 no. 2 in E-flat major.

Enjoy!

Daniel,

Very nice!

I like it a lot.

But to me it seems more of a Waltz than a Nocturne, or maybe a Waltz-Nocturne.

By the way, I love Waltzes!

Thanks so much for posting your beautiful work.

Have you tried box.net for hosting your files?

Yes, waltz might've been more appropriate. I call it a nocturne because of the Chopin piece I mentioned.
Thanks for the advice on box.net. It looks really nice, so I'll upload there next time.

I'm glad you like the piece!

Thanks very much for the sheets, Daniel.

I wanted to ask, but I didn't want to impose.

I was able to look at the sheet music, but the mp3 doesn't seem to be working at the moment. At any rate, looks good - though perhaps a bit repetetive. You have some nice ideas in there, I think it could benefit from a little more variety. Rather than simply repeat sections, maybe throw some variation in. Also, I wouldn't use the octave clefs like you have - they're rarely, if ever, used in piano music. Just use 8va or 8vb where necessary.

I wish I could've written the octaves the standard way, but I don't think NoteWorthy does that at the moment.

I think for the next piece I'll record through MIDI and then edit that, so I don't have to write the whole thing. I wonder if that would work...
"Writing" music isn't the thing for me. Could write the melody line, and then the chords as text, fake-book style. Will have to experiment to see what fits me best I guess, because I'd like to be able to have something written down at least.

By the way, the piano in the MP3 is Steinberg's The Grand 2. Apparently my computer didn't like the piece cause it started random rebooting after the recording!

MIDI recordings are often too "messy" to translate into proper written music, and require a lot of cleanup. I usually import the MIDI and then duplicate it by hand into a second file.
