I am purchasing a 7.5 feet grand piano, the dealer told me that he will give me a Pratt-Reed action because it's the best piano action in the world. Is this correct? I thought the best is the German Renner action. Anyone can tell me about the Pratt-Reed Action, please.

Your dealer is not being honest with you, or he has a very limited experience with piano actions. (I am being kind here.) Is there a different dealer you can go to?

Jurgen, thanks for your reply. I can't go to any other dealer because I have a good deal on this purchase and I live in a remote location where there is no piano dealer here in town.

I can request for a Full German Renner Action if I want to so please tell me which action to get among these two the Pratt-Reed or Full German Renner. I thought the full German Renner would be the better one. Am I right?

There was a time when the answer would have been Renner, no question, but things change in the industry so fast these days. I am not familiar with Pratt-Read since they were bought by Samick (I think that is who owns the name now), but it is possible that they have improved in quality.

Do the current Pratt-Reed actions have anything to do with the former company? There really isn't a Pratt-Reed company anymore, unless I'm missing something here. Yes, things have been changing fast enough that it's hard to keep up.
