What about Suzuki?
Tried a Suzuki in a used piano store. It was labeled HP-85. Seemed like a good one but overpriced at $1500. What is the concensus on the brand?

I looked the model up, found it priced at 999$, so 1500$ is a bit high if you ask me.
It sure has nice specifications for it's price tag : polyphony of 64, two 40W speakers. The "natural hammer action feel" should be tested to know it's value though, so does the "3D sound". I cannot comment on those, I've never made music on a Suzuki before, I thought they only made cars and motorbikes \:D

Yeah, when are Honda and Kawasaki going to make pianos? Yamaha and Suzuki appear to be ahead of the game!

I once read a thread on another piano message board about a man who had purchased a Suzuki and it broke down fom an unknown cause. (particular octaves simply ceased to work or something like that)

He needed help because the company refused to repair it, even though the warrantee was still valid.

Either way, I would NEVER purchase one based upon its reputation or should I say, lack thereof. I don't know, they seem to look lovely, nice cabinets and everything but they don't sound very good. I've only ever played one though, about two years ago.

Here are some links that may or may not help you.
Basically, the HP-85 is described as "entry level."

Suzuki pianos are a joke in my opinion. I am not impressed with them one bit. There "3D Sound" is not impressing and theire balanced hammer action feels like crap. I have came up with a rating chart for Suzuki.

  • 3D Sound- This imaging technology from Suzuki is total junk. The piano sound is not very expressive. The decay is very short and the resonance is not full and rich. Suzuki probably gets their pianos from Bosendorfer's, but Im not sure.
  • Balance Hammer Action- Very Uncomfortable, it feels a little bit too loosey goosey. The "Key to Sound" connection is not good, it is not smooth and mellow. The action is one reason why there is limited dynamics.

I hate to say it, but Korg's pianos are much better than Suzuki's, and korgs are pretty bad.
