Hi Guys,

I own a Kawai MP5, which sits next to my computer. I'd like to be able to use the computer to do more interesting things with the keyboard. So I bought a wire that goes from the back of the keyboard to the computer, and plugged it in. Then sort of sat there and thought...

Now what?

I'd quite like to be be able to use some different sound samples (for fun) from the computer, as well as others.

I can do this with both Windows and or Ubuntu (linux). Any suggestions?

From a midi point of view; as a starting point, lets say I want to use the keyboard to trigger a drumbeat or something... any suggestions are very welcome!!!

Thanks,
Simon

You'll need software on your computer. Look into Cakewalk Home Studio for example.

If you just want to play for a while to see what it can do, try out this shareware program.

Hmm, I thought I replied to this but my post seems missing. Here it is again:

Assuming you have connected your MP5 to the computer using a USB or MIDI cable (as opposed to just a line-out audio cable), I would also recommend downloading trial versions of virtual instrument programmes.

'Ivory' is an excellent concert grand piano simulator, while 'B4' provides arguably the most realistic Hammond organ synthesis.

Cheers,
James
