Piano*Dad, are you available for hire? I need someone to take on my case with Apple, going on 6 months now, regarding their inability to fix my MacBook pro.

Excellent! This is really interesting. I actually have the same issue with 3 of my own kid's youtube videos and all were taken at age 10 or younger (Fur Elise, Sonata Op 49 No 2 Beethoven, Gigue from Partita in B-flat minor Bach). He will find this story hysterical (he's all of 11 now). I agree their filtering software definitely must need some major work! Might be shooting off an e-mail now that I know someone has had success. Thanks for paving the way!

OK, now I'm going after some firm named "Believe." This one is really difficult to track down online. Googling the word believe is kind of silly. After a little digging, I found an address that might work .... contact@believedigital.com They seem to think a recording of a fourteen year old playing Mozart K333 is theirs: The video in question: Mozart K333 Here's my nastygram .... Dear Sir/Madam:
Your firm seems to have made an erroneous copyright claim on a YouTube video of my teenage son playing a piano sonata movement by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Actually, this is kind of funny. The music is over 230 years old, and it is rather clearly in the public domain. The pianist in question is fourteen. There is no way your firm has any ownership rights. If you have a filter that thinks my son is Vladimir Horowitz, then your filter is shockingly deficient. Here is the video in question.
Mozart Sonata in B-flat, K. 333, 1st Mov…
Another firm (Koch Entertainment) made the same silly copyright claim, but they apparently exhibited some sense and backed off once they viewed the video.
regards,
This is fun!

OK, now I'm batting 2 for 2. "Believe" is apparently located in France. A nice gentleman at their firm sent this: Hi David, I assume your son plays pretty well and I’m aware he’s not Chopin either. Yes, YouTube content id system matched the audio with one of our references (remastered) as you can see below. I released the claim regarding this video. Thank you for contacting us. Regards. Apparently YouTube has its own content match system, and it's a dud. In addition, there is no penalty for firms that incorrectly rely on it. It's completely safe for them to exercise no diligence on their own unless someone whines ... and maybe not even then. Here is a blow up of that image:

I haven't gotten around to sending my e-mails on my kid's piano videos yet, but the plot thickens. Just last weekend both my kids played in a recital and I posted new videos for the grandparents. My 7 (SEVEN!?) year olds violin video is getting a copyright hit on Gavotte from Mignon by Thomas. You've got to be kidding me. I'd post it but I'm afraid someone on this board would tell me to take away her violin and hide it. She made at least a handful (or maybe 2) of errors and she's playing on a 1/8 size violin. That is some seriously flawed technology!

PS: do share; everyone has to start somewhere.

LOL - that was my thought too. What the heck - I'll post it up for a bit. She is not a huge performer - she's new to being up on a big stage and playing with a piano solo. She plays cleaner than this standing on one foot in her living room most days. But well demonstrates the flawed filtering software! (did I mention - she's 7!? Haha) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaO78t76otM

She did just fine. She plays better than most 7 year olds that I have heard. It almost seemed like she was racing to see if she could finish before the piano. I found that endearing. I actually love going back and looking back in time at the kid's music videos. I have videos of this kid playing a halting twinkle and seeing her race through this piece trying to beat that ever annoying piano, she's come a long way! She does do well for a 7 year old - she's the youngest kid in her violin group by a couple years. But her being picked up at this point by the copyright filtering software playing on that tiny violin is hysterical. At least my piano kid was playing on a concert steinway when he got picked up and is a bit more advanced!
