Maybe craiglist removes ads after a certain period of time. Much of these were 404. I was looking forward to more funny stuff.

I'm pretty sure they do. I've heard times like 7 or 10 days, or 30 or 45 days or so, depending on where the ad is placed. I think large cities like Los Angeles get the shorter time.

This post was started several years ago--it should be no surprise that the older links have expired!

Funny what people think...

There's an older book available online, The pianoforte and its acoustic properties, that discusses experimenting with metal sound boards. It describes a few, including Steinway & Sons of NY, who installed aluminum soundboards in two grand pianos (but found them deficient).

Man, I don't know whether to say "the pedals need a little attention," or to congratulate them on their ingenuity!! wink

If it gets too hot in the room your playing in, you can always use the "pedal" as a door stop!

This is not a Craigslist funny piano, however, these people have no idea that this piano is not worth what they are asking. Unfortunate, as the sale is for a good cause.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/151703933865

My player piano tech recently took an original 1920's Steinway XR Grand to the dump....he could not even give it away, let alone get anything for it! frown

As has been discussed before, people and re-builders seem to shy away from the ex-players, especially Duo-Art players, probably due to the different action and slightly shorter black keys.

Except that still has the player mechanism in it.

As did the XR my tech took to the dumps frown albeit, it needed a full restoration. Regardless, to ask $29,000 for an XR, and it needs restoration?...... not going to happen.

Now here is a seriously good deal, IF the soundboard is not dead. This is a realistic price, in fact a great price considering what they did to it, compared to that Steinway XR above at $29K!

Does this make sense? The price is reasonable, but reason for going out of tune? Is something happening to the pinboard? http://austin.craigslist.org/zip/5121597095.html

Curiosity only! I have three vintage uprights and a Yamaha electric already!
