I had a thought of organising some kind of live recital using Ustream or something similar. What do you guys think? I'm sure the logistics would be tricky, but doable.

I watched a bunch of live stuff from Valentina Lisitsa on livestream.com recently that seemed to function pretty nice. I don't know what kind of fees (or other "logistics"), if any, there are, but you may want to check it out. With enough notice, I'd watch and enjoy said recital.

The logistics I was thinking of were more about getting several different people in different places to contribute to the same recital. I.e. tune into one channel to hear the first performer, then tune into another to hear the second etc. There would probably be different timezones and so forth.

Could it somehow all be streamed into one channel? (This is not a technology I am terribly familiar with, I'm afraid..)

I'm also unsure if it can happen from different parts of the world in the same channel...

Perhaps you could link the new ustream channel by the end of the performance? So you perform a work, then turn to the camera and offer the link of the new ustream channel... something like that?

Other than that VERY interesting and lovely idea!

That was the sort of thing I was thinking yes. I don't think its possible to do it to the same channel. We'd need to synchronise watches and stuff laugh hehe

There is video conferencing software that should be able to get people from multiple parts of the world into the same "room", but I'm not sure how music would sound across it. Used it for business meetings and the like, but never for music. If you could somehow get everyone into the same video conference, and then stream the conference, would that be a decent solution?

Interesting. More research needed then. I hope I can get this off the ground. smile

Perhaps if we could get say 5 people on board now, and set a rough date for mid january possibly? Would anybody be interested? Most crucially though, obviously you must have an accessible piano to perform on in a place where you can livestream your playing, preferably some computer knowledge and a good, fast secure internet connection.

I would love to, but my biggest problem is no access to a piano. But if I can help out any other way, I'm happy to.

I'd probably use college pianos/wifi, but it would probably be more convenient for people with pianos in their homes.
