Hey all --

Beginner here looking to buy his first DP. Visited the dealer today and he offered me the CN34 at the same price as the CE220. Key action is the most important thing for me, and I played both and both felt acceptable to my naive fingers. However they are different -- CN34 has "Responsive Hammer II (RH II) Action with Let-off" and the CE220 has "88-Key AWA PROII wooden-key, graded hammer action with counterbalancing".

Given both will cost the same, will either model feel better as my skills mature?

thanks for any advice!
-steve

There isn't a consensus on that, unfortunately. Some people are partial to the wood action in the AWA PRO II while others like the RH. Since there's no consensus, I'd say you are safe getting whichever you think is best without worrying that it will hamper your skills later. AWA PRO II is a higher-end action in the sense that it was originally built into more expensive pianos than RH, but it is an older version of the Kawai wood action (it was the predecessor to the RM3 and later GF actions). It's not 100% clear how much difference the innovations in its successors make, so I wouldn't discount it just because it's been superceded.

Thanks for the reply! I wound up getting the CN34. Since there was no clear winner regarding the key action, I wound up making my decision based on the fact that the CN34 was a bit newer and has a better warrantee.

cheers!

Congrats Steve!

Please feel free to post a mini-review of your piano after you've been playing it for a week or so.

Kind regards,
James
