Having played many B and D Steinways over the past 50 years and usually enjoyed the experience, I place my vote for Mason &Hamlin, especially my BB, which outperforms them all.

I've played some fabulous and not so fabulous Steinways, as well as fabulous and not so fabulous examples of other top brands, but the very best and most memorable pianos I've played have been Steinways, and I always end up going back to that sound. So if you're counting, that would be my vote.

Yes, I know. Actually, as you probably know, leading 19c and early 20c piano makers were hot shots at marketing with concert halls, international exhibitions, endorsements by leading composers, and so on. Over here Bechstein, Bluthner and Steinway still benefit from that brand legacy.

I think Feurich deserves mention. I was basically unaware of the Brand a year ago (they are certainly not well know in America), now I have one. It is a glorious piano, similar to a Foerster, Shigeru I would say. Definite European sound. I have had a Steinway, Grotrian, and Schimmel C series. This piano beats them all to heck.

The best piano is whatever your favorite is. As for me its a Steinway Hamburg D, thats why I own one.

Lager is fine. Had one, 't was the King Lager from Duisburg.

Bitte ein König! (Einen König?)

The Netherlands people tomorrow get one, after 123 years of lady kings only (...ohhh what's the name, it starts with x or y or q or other cryptic letter..) (and they had mostly prince husbands, most mostly derived from Germany..)

The much more interesting question here is: which is the official brand of the Netherland's Royal Family's new piano...

Once the pre-pre-last Sultan of Turkey bought the biggest heap of Royal Turkish Pianos, it were five, ordered at one time. One for Himself, and four for each of his beloved Main Wives.

..and there were 500 other women in the palace, but they didn't get a concert grand Centennial D fom this New York brand, dam... heck..<oops> which was it's name..

Are you trying to skew the results?

No Marty, I am trying to be as impartial as possible. However, I am very surprise to see that this particular brand did not get any vote. But you are right I shouldn't say anything.

Not to spoil anyone’s fun, but this thread is all about purely subjective opinions.

There is no absolute best brand, except in the eye of the beholder, or dealer, or owner. Whatever you think is the best brand is the best brand to you.

I’m beginning to wonder where this thread is headed…

Yes, I did... in fact, here are my comments early on in the thread:

My answer to the question? There is NO one single best brand. But there are lots of great brands.

For the moment, the best brand, as far as I'm concerned, is the one I have sitting in my music room.

Rick

I see Steve Cohen just added Mason & Hamlin BB to the list... anyone else?

If not, I don’t see much of anything else to be gained here…

Speak now while the thread is still open... smile
