My daughter got my sister and I tickets to see Jools at the Apollo Theatre in Manchester last night, pretty much front seats. What a fantastic show, he spent much of the time, 2 hours, at the piano and played with one hand some of the time! A really big thing I noticed was that he really really enjoys music and playing and it shows in his face. He is a bit jazzy and that's not my favourite kind of music however, it was superb. He played some blues solo piano which was knockout!
His guest singers and band players were fabulous, the whole place was rocking.
Oh, to be able to play the piano, so musically and exciting must be wonderful.
Well, back to practising Merry Little Christmas.

Yea Jools is an excellent pianist, especially boogie woogie and stride.

To think he used to be in a pop band in the 80s. Albeit a very good one...

Here's one he did with Mable John ... I really like how he played the RH off the LH in some of those phrases:

I think she's was more a background Motown artist than solo ... she was born about thirty + miles from my porch swing, not that that helped her with her talent much. grin

Nice work with Moonshadow, Ry Cooder/Paris, TX, etc.. Here's one I like a lot from the Paris movie:

Pretty easy to transfer to the Piano.

I'm envious, Shey. What a treat to get to see him in concert - what a cool gift.

Here's one of my favorite Jools Holland:

(Rerun - I think I got introduced to Jools Holland by Deep Elem/Buck lo these many years ago. I traded him for Marsha Ball smile )

I used to be a great fan of Squeeze, Jools played with them for years, you can hear his piano playing on some of their old songs, fabulous. I wouldn't have gone to see him but that tickets were a gift. But, I would love to see him again. As I said before, he seems to be in with the music supporting singers and enjoying every minute.
He is not a great singer, but does a good job whilst playing piano. I felt privileged to be at his concert. Loved it. Shey

Thats the song I mentioned in another thread, jazzy bluesy version.
