I think it goes the other way, too. I've had students who came to me after taking lessons from folks who are charging significantly more than I do--and the students think I teach better!! One of these teachers charged more than double of what I charged at the time. I don't know how she manages to stay in business.

Yes, it does go the other way, because there are always "Piano in a Flash" type people who have a gimmick and then charge through the roof. wink

The idea that you "get what you pay for" is not always true.

But in general if there is a teacher in an area who is charging substantially less than all the other teachers, that's not a good sign.

If a student finds a great teacher who is also "a good deal", that is a very unusual thing, in my experience.
