Hi, guys! Long time away, but I'm Baaaaaack!
I just recieved as a gift from a very good friend a Roland XP-80. I wanted a DP or keyboard of some type that I could place in our bedroom, so I could wander over as the mood struck me, sit down and play, and not have to go into the music room.
I ended up moving the Roland into the music room, and moving my Casio Privia into the bedroom. Since the Roland is a synth/workstation, it just makes sense to have it in the music room, where all of it's features are available for recording/music production.
But I am greatly enjoying the XP-80. I know that it is old, and the sounds in it are old as well, but some of the piano voicings are really lovely, and if I can find the time, I think going in and tweaking some of the basic presets could give me some wonderful sounds.
Anyone have one of these? Got any tips, cautions, advice about any idiosyncrasies or features this workstation has which might not be apparent to a first time user?
Or just general info?

I gigged the XP-80 for over 10 years. Great keyboard. One of Roland's nicest semi weighted actions. Packed with JV era sounds and room for sr jv expansion cards. I recommend taking a look for some used based on your interests. Popular cards like Keyboards of the 60s and 70s, the Orchestra I and II cards.

Wow! What a wonderful present. The old Roland XP80 is a lovely synth, and the semi weighted synth action is sweet.

Thanks for the link. I could see myself picking up a couple of those if I can find them, eventually. But there is so much already available with it that it will take a couple of months easy just getting used to that. Thanks for the link!
Just Alan, yes, a fantastic gift. I'm loving it!
