I am absolutely loving my new Kawai CA97 - except that the pedal unit seems quite noisy. Depressing any of the 3 pedals results in a fairly prominent creaking/squeaking noise that comes from the pedal unit/base of the piano. The noise is not transmitted through the speakers, and it's not affected by altering the Damper Resonance or Damper Noise settings on the virtual technician. It almost sounds like there is friction within the pedal unit, or between the pedal unit and something else.

Is it normal to have this level of squeaking from the pedal unit? It's pretty distracting and noticeable when I play.

Is there by chance a disc underneath the pedal unit? If there is like our HP605, you may want to turn this disc so that this foot extends to the floor snugly and the forces exerted on the pedal do not translate into creaking

Yes ; page 14 of your manual

„Adjusting the pedal support bolt

A pedal support bolt is attached at the base of the pedal board to aid stability when the pedals are pushed. Turn the bolt anticlockwise until it makes contact with the floor and supports the pedals firmly.

Thanks all! I had adjusted the pedal support bolt when the piano first arrived, but I went back to examine it after reading your responses and realized that our floors are slightly uneven so the bolt was not stable. No more creaking after placing thin cardboard underneath to even out the floor surface. Whew. Thanks!!!

Thank you! Thank you! That did the trick on my Kawai CN95. The squeak was driving me batty. I was all set to squirt some WD40 into the mechanism. I'm glad I read this thread first!
