Hello

I just wonder if any can tell me a little about a Blüthner grand model 10 "166 cm"?
I wonder what you think about the action and if it is "heavy" to play at?
I have a Seiler grand mod. 206, and if someone here can compare those two, I would like to hear which one of these grands you like best. I think the Seiler is a little too heavy.

Hmm, that's a tough one. I have a 206 and played several Bluthners. I think I tend towards the Seiler for late Romantic classical music. The Bluthner (at least the modern ones) seem to be more controlled and dry sounding. If you are playing Jazz, the Bluthner may be a better choice. I don't find the action heavy on the Seiler. The state of the hammers has a lot to do with the perceived heaviness of the action. The original Abel hammers on the Seiler give lots of projection, especially in the treble, but the sound tends to be very bright for a home setting. I just softened the hammers on mine, and the touch does feel heavier, but the control of soft passages is better, and the upper harmonics are reduced which "sweetens" the tone.

The Bluthner model 10 is an exceptionally well balanced small piano with a light action if set up correctly. However it IS a small piano and it possibly won't have the palette of a seiler 206 .

If money is making you choose a smaller Bluthner perhaps you could go for a rebuilt Bluthner?

Also if light is what you want, the old Bluthner patent action is amazing - I have a patent action Bluthner and a roller action Bluthner.

I can't help wondering though, if your piano just needs a good regulation and lubrication?

+1.
This would be step one as Seiler's actions are not heavy by nature. Step two might be to make custom changes to lighten the action to your preferences. A different instrument would have to be about addressing some other preferences, not just this one.

Also, check your humidity. The humidity here in England is very high at the moment, and if I don't use my dehumidifier on the room, the piano's action gets heavy.
