Included in the price are four lessons. I'm already near the end of Alfred's book 1 without any outside help, so it will be interesting to see what the teacher has to say about my playing. I'm currently using a Yamaha YDP-S31, bought used earlier this year.

I also tested a Roland in the same price range, but it had two major issues for me. First, the headphone output had constant hiss, unchanged by volume. I haven't heard any hiss on my Yamaha or the other three I tried at the store. Second, the main piano sound sounded too much like synth instead of the real thing. Some people maypref synth, so they can tinker with the sound, but I vastly prefer samples.

I went in to the store aiming for $2500 tax inclusive (~$2200). The store would only go down to around $2350, but threw in $100 worth of lessons, which I had planned to take sometime soon anyway. I ended up just $50 shy of my target.

I'm not a fan of Ebay because I usually lose the bidding battle at the end. However, this had a "Buy It Now" option at the $580. I had looked at these new and the prices I was getting were $1199, so I thought if this thing works it will be a great deal, even if it had a few dings. It was shipped very well - tons of bubble wrap and peanuts in a large box, along with the manual and AC adapter. The thing is in perfect condition, not a scratch on it! Apparently it was used in a recording studio and they were upgrading or something, but I didn't want to ask many questions .

I've been extremely busy so I've only scratched the surface of learning how to use this thing (not literally scratched :P ) but so far I love it! The sounds are awesome and I love the options if gives me. Now, on to reading the manuals!
