Anyone for "Block chords"? I use them once in a while in a tune-very full using C-6ths and Major 7th's- Works nice in the tune "Whispering", for example. GPA

In what context? As a practice technique? As an accompaniment? As a technical exercise?

Sorry Morodiene-I have edited the text-The block chord technique fits in at times, in some tunes here and there, as the song progresses and the opportunity arises.It might have been Dave Brubeck that did this during certain riffs.The effect is extreme fullness, especially with a bass accompaniment.

The melody is played as the top note of a chord,then repeated under the rest of the chord, eg: C is the melody note--then it follows as CEAC (the fifth and sixth are blocked in--the configuration continues as desired. The melody is duplicated on each side of the chord.
