Chinese pianist YinJia Lin has drawn international attention since her concerto debut at the age of 15 with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, conducted by Wing-Sie Yip. Recognized by critics, colleagues and the public as a pianist with the highest sensitivity, imagination and precision, combining brilliant musicality with great passion, Ms. Lin has performed solo recitals, concertos and chamber music concerts in New York City venues such as the Alice Tully Hall, WMP Concert Hall, Ana Tzarev Gallery, and the Frederick Loewe Theater at New York University, as well as performing at international venues including the Hong Kong City Hall and the Golden Horse Concert Hall in Canton, China. Ms. Lin has been awarded many scholarships, awards and prizes in both China and the U.S., including the Second Prize of the Buono & Bradshaw International Piano Competition in 2008, the First Prize of the New York University Piano Concerto Competition in 2005 and the First Prize of the Mozart International Piano/Violin Concerto Competition in Hong Kong in 1998. As an Adjunct Artist for the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Ms. Lin performed numerous solo recitals in New Jersey for the 2008-2009 subscription season, captivating and delighting her audiences.

Born in Canton, China, YinJia Lin began playing the piano at the age of six. In 2000, she came to the United States to study with Martin Canin at the Juilliard Pre-College division in New York City. The following year, Ms. Lin was accepted as a full-scholarship student by the Juilliard School’s college division. Ms. Lin has participated in many music festivals, including the Bowdoin Summer Music Festival from 2000 to 2003 and the Nice Academy in France in 2006. She has also participated in Master Classes given by Pierre Laurent Aimard, Lazar Berman, Olivier Gardon, Shi-Kun Liu, Ming-Qiang Li, and Arie V ardi.

In addition to performing, Ms. Lin has a passion for teaching. She was appointed Adjunct Faculty at New York University from 2005-2007, teaching music courses to undergraduate students while pursuing her Master of Arts at NYU’s Steinhardt School. In 2008, Ms. Lin joined the faculty of the Noel Pointer Foundation where she taught music to underprivileged children from the Brooklyn area. She also worked professionally as a Music Consultant for the Ana Tzarev Gallery in New York City, as well as Concert Hall Manager at the WMP Concert Hall, where she organized many concerts, including the popular “Strad for Lunch” series.

Ms. Lin recently completed her Doctoral study at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, under the tutelage of Santiago Rodriguez. As a full-scholarship student and Graduate Teaching Assistant to Dr. Paul Posnak, Ms. Lin taught undergraduate keyboardskills and accompanying classes as well as coaching chamber music ensembles. An experienced and versatile keyboardist, Ms. Lin studied the harpsichord with musicologist Dr. Frank Cooper and the organ with Dr. Robert Remek. She recently made an appearance in the Frost School of Music’s “Festival Miami” as harpsichordist with the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra. During the past year, Ms. Lin was invited to play at the Ecuadorian Consulate in New York City with Venezuelan violinist Everhard Paredes. She also made an appearance in the Miami Civic Music Association’s 2012 concert series and soloed with the Coral Gables Opera at its “American Ideal Concert,” performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.1, which was broadcast on PBS channel thirteen. Have you never taken piano lessons before?  Did you stop playing but want to resume lessons? Or do you want to play a particular tune or learn how to play while singing? If this sounds like you, I believe I can help!

I studied classical piano and theory with notable musicians and teachers privately and at Columbia University. I developed a keen ability to shape talent from years of training, performing, teaching, and working with the head of music programs to conduct admissions interviews and student performances.

Students find that I am a teacher with a vibrant, warm personality who ensures that they have a firm understanding of the following: fundamentals of theory; how to efficiently learn, practice and perform a piece; and a style of playing that minimizes tension and produces beautiful sound. After 6 months, they should have sound knowledge of all of these.

My studio locations are in Chelsea and Midtown.

To aspiring and professional pianists who want to practice with less struggle and break through to a new level of performance:

No matter how much we love the piano or how hard we work at it, practicing and performing can be frustrating.

While we’re trying to coordinate our hands in a passage we’re practicing, all the sounds and emotions in the music are flooding our system, making it hard to focuson the details of phrasing, fingering, pedaling, and dynamics. Overwhelmed by these demands, we often push ourselves harder—repeating passages in a joyless, desperate way, forcing ourselves to play louder or faster, racking our brains to come up with the ideal shape for a phrase, or trying to rev up the kind of emotional intensity that we think the music should have.

We end up tense and less able to think clearly or play musically.

Finally, when we perform, stage fright can make us panic, destroy our confidence, and wreak havoc with the performance we’ve spent so much time preparing.

Productive practicing and true music-making happen when you’re in a state of flow—when your body and mind are working with ease.

Since 1985, I’ve helped pianists release tension and open up their playing through a step-by-step approach I developed called the Art of Practicing. This approach combines state-of-the-art piano technique with mental and sensory techniques to help you enjoy each moment of practicing and to build ease, communicative power, and confidence for performance.

You can learn this approach and experience more freedom in making music.

I wish you much joy and success with the piano.

Piano Teacher, Composer and Pianist Edward Nemirovsky.

Classical Music and Jazz. For students of all ages.

From beginners to advanced.

Teaching Piano, Theory of Music, Harmony, Music Composition and Jazz .

References at http://www.edwardpiano.com

Edward Nemirovsky Piano Teacher and Composer in New York City, NYC, Manhattan, Holds a Master’s degree in Music. More than 35 years of professional experience in pedagogy at all levels and as a piano teacher. A professional composer and pianist. Genres include symphonic, instrumental, chamber music, music for voice and solo instruments, children’s music, theatrical music and film scores. Film Scores by Edward Nemirovsky were presented at many international film festivals.

My method for teaching piano playing differs radically from music lessons given at public schools. It is traditional and similar to the method used in the previous musical period in Europe where the traditions of classical music were established. One of the clearest distinguishing features of my teaching method is individual work with a specific student rather than a group of students. It is this individual approach to the unique character of a given student that constitutes the very crux of my methodology. In my opinion, only by using this method is it possible to open up the world of the highly intellectual art of classical music for students.                                                                                                                                                  The techniques I use for teaching adults students consist of the following:

 - A patient and considerate approach to the individual characteristics and age of the student.

 - The search for a special technique for each individual student.

  - A selection of a repertoire reflecting the musical interest of the specific student including a broad selection of musical styles: classical, popular, jazz, etc.                                                                                    - As necessary, the technical performance of each musical composition can be specially simplified by professional musicians giving a beginning student the ability to perform any popular classical piece or modern song as he or she wishes.                                                                                                                                                                   - “Easy to understand” method for learning Piano, Theory of music, Music Composition, Orchestration techniques, Jazz Harmony progressions and improvisation.

We all have a little dream, but we always put it off to the distant future. We're just too busy! Life is slipping by in of pursuit of money. There is no room even for this little dream. I am telling you that there is room for this dream. Do something about it now, today!

Offering quality in-home piano lessons in Upper West Side, Manhattan. Also providing instruction at studio located in Upper Manhattan. Piano lessons are designed for each student’s learning style and goals through a clear, step-by-step, and comfortable approach at all levels. "Eunbi worked magic with my two daughters, who were otherwise quite reluctant piano students. She provided them with highly personalized instruction, and they really enjoyed working with her. She was able to discern each of my children’s particular strengths and personalities, and designed the instruction accordingly. She inspired discipline and better performance, but was always positive. She seemed to genuinely LIKE them, and they sensed it. Eunbi worked incredibly hard to arrange recitals with other kids in the neighborhood, and my girls were highly motivated to work toward these fun performances in front of their friends and neighbors. I HIGHLY recommend Eunbi!” -V. Hume, Parent

Here is an abbreviated performance bio:

Described by the American Record Guide as a pianist whose playing “was as smooth as velvet,” David Shimoni has performed extensively throughout the United States. He has appeared in recital in New York’s Zankel Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Museum of Modern Art. He has also performed at the Barns at Wolf Trap, the Chicago Cultural Center, the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, and the Dallas Museum of Art.

Born in Chapel Hill, NC, Mr. Shimoni attended the North Carolina School of the Arts during high school and earned a B.A. from Swarthmore College.  He then received the Vladimir Horowitz Scholarship to study at the Juilliard School, where he obtained masters degrees in both solo and collaborative performance. Mr. Shimoni was the first-prize winner of the National Federation of Music Clubs’ Young Artist Auditions, which sponsored two years of recitals throughout the United States. He has been a guest artist at the Chautauqua, Brevard, Moab, Foothills, and Rockport music festivals, and his performances have been broadcast on radio stations WGBH-Boston, WFMT-Chicago, and WQXR-New York.

Now about my teaching:

I am an avid teacher. I have had a private studio in New York City for fourteen years, during which I have taught children, college students, amateurs, and Grammy-award winning professionals.  Regardless of the age or experience that a student brings, my goal is to help make piano playing personally enriching and musically satisfying.

A student’s physical coordination at the piano is a key component of the ability to play beautifully and with enjoyment. In my own playing, I have gained a lot from the Alexander Method and the Taubman approach, both physiologically based sets of principles that help to free pianists from strain and technical limitations. Using these principles and a musical sense that has come from working with a wide variety of great musicians, I help my students to attain new levels of facility and musical expressiveness. Lessons consist of work on theory, technique, ear training, and sight reading as well as pieces.

I have been on the staff of The Juilliard School, Brooklyn College, the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, the Ravinia Steans Institute, and Trevor Day School in New York. I have also given master classes and educational workshops at schools throughout the United States and at the World Piano Pedagogy Conference. In order to give my students valuable opportunities to share their music, I put together informal performances for them and prepare them for events sponsored by the Leschetizky Association and the Piano Teachers Congress of New York.

I invite you to contact me for a discounted trial lesson at any of the locations where I teach.

I trained at Berklee College of Music, New York University, as well Manhattan School of Music and achieved a Master of Music Degree.

I teach Jazz as well as Classical, Pop, and Blues with emphasis on technique and theory for any ability and age level. I have been teaching for more than ten years.

Mastering piano is certainly a challenge. It takes time, dedication, discipline and lots of hard work and practice. There are no "genius musicians." Behind any successful artist is a lot of perseverance and dedication to practice.

If one is determined and works hard, one will become a great pianist. I can guarantee it. This approach however, is not for everyone. I also believe that music should be fun. Even if you don't have the ambition to become a professional that's alright. For adults, music can be a wonderful emotional stress reliever. For children the piano can play a part in early childhood development. Learning the piano also provides a sense of great accomplishment for people at all levels of ability. My teaching is depends on students need. I'm very flexible and patient.

It's fun to play the piano!  Let's make Joy, Harmony, and Smile!

Dear parent / potential piano student!

Thank you for visiting my page. A quick word about myself: I am an active collaborative pianist and an avid teacher. I am Israeli, lived in London for 7 years and have recently relocated to New York. I have graduate degrees (both with honors) from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, where I was also working for the last 2 years.

I have over 15 years of experience teaching music and other subject matters to children, adolescents, college/university students and adults. I have devised musical activities for toddlers ages 2-5, taught piano privately for 15 years to students of all ages, from all walks of life, students with different needs and aspirations. I have prepared students for all grades of the ABRSM exams and for college entry auditions. In addition I have taught students with cognitive disorders in junior and high school in Jerusalem and was also teaching at the Hebrew University and tutoring at the Royal Holloway College, University of London.

I love teaching. I enjoy and value the one to one relationship with a student. I am happy I can share and pass on my knowledge and expertise, and I truly hope to become a meaningful person in my student’s life.

I am classically trained and strive to provide my students with the best foundation which they can later apply to any genre, be it classical, jazz, rock, pop or perhaps their own composition.  I care about correct hand position, good technique and sense of rhythm, notation and sight reading. I am patient, demanding and supportive at the same time, adjusting to the ability demonstrated by each student. I am attentive to the student’s musical taste and inclination, but I will also try to suggest ‘contrasting’ repertoire as means to expand and cultivate musicality and music appreciation.

There are many studies praising the benefits of playing an instrument. It is a unique activity which combines cognitive, motoric and emotional aspects. Challenge and reward are two sides of the same coin. Practice and persistence are essential as there is always something new to learn and more technical difficulties to overcome, but regardless of your level you always express yourself through your playing and perhaps delight others.

It is never too late to start and hopefully music making will accompany you all your life.

I speak English, Hebrew and Russian and happy to teach in any of these languages. I will be more than happy to refer you to my current students for recommendations.

Do e-mail or call for further information!

I am looking forward to hear from you!

Miriam

At the Chelsea Arts Music Studio, I specialize in teaching beginning and intermediate piano students how to sightread with ease, how to effectively analyze each piece of music they encounter, and, most importantly, how to trust themselves as a player and musician.

My name is Sara, and it is my goal as a teacher to make sure that each of my students, from young children to adults, approaches the piano with grace, freedom, and joy. I am a nurturig and caring instructor that seeks to help students establish a lifelong love for the piano and for music. Through gentle encouragement, lively discussions about musical ideas and patterns, and the intelligent application of technique, students will become excellent sightreaders of classical and popular music, and will maintain an enthusiastic and ongoing interest in the piano.

Students at the Chelsea Arts Music Studio learn proper position at the bench, easy and graceful hand technique, effective sightreading strategies, beginning to advanced music theory, and popular piano styles. I work with students on all styles of music, including pop and rock lead sheets, but I guide each of my students in playing classical pieces as well, in order to encourage independence of the fingers, good sightreading of the grand staff, and familiarity with musical motives and cadences. I strongly emphasize the building of a solid sense of rhythm and make sure all of my students gain familiarity with many different kinds of rhythmic patterns.

The focus on music theory, sightreading, rhythm, hand technique, and popular and classical piano styles makes the Chelsea Arts Music Studio the place for gaining a healthy and complete music education.

"Rosanna Buchs is an excellent piano teacher. She is a highly skilled professional. She is patient, understands how to teach and motivate young students. She is able to understand Katerina's musical interests and passion and incorporates it into her lessons. As a piano player myself, I wish I could have studied under Rosanna's guidance as a child. "

“Rosanna has been teaching my daughter piano for the past two years and we have been extremely happy. Rosanna maintains the delicate balance of being a kind and patient teacher while still challenging her students. Rosanna works with each students' musical interests and encourages students to suggest pieces they would like to play. My daughter was thrilled when Rosanna helped her learn a familiar Dvorak piece from an old lullaby CD.”

Practicing and playing the piano can sometimes be frustrating, and the answer does not always lie simply in "working harder."

Do you ever feel like you're hitting a wall in your expressive abilities? Do you lack the technical confidence to really make a piece of music "sing"?

Through improper instruction and accumulated habits, we can lose touch with the effortlessness that comes with proper alignment and economy of motion. By training my students in natural piano technique, mental and physical tensions dissolve, allowing the once wasted energy to increase our connection to the music. It is in this state of heightened awareness that we can experience truly efficient practicing, which will allow true beauty to flow through the music.

This approach is very effective with beginners as well, as they learn early on the feeling of being deeply in tune the piano.

David Lantz is a Juilliard graduate in jazz piano with a strong classical background, who has received national recognition as a performer and composer, and who has five years teaching experience. Since graduating from Juilliard he has also trained with Madeline Bruser, author of The Art of Practicing: A Guide to Making Music from the Heart. He performs regularly in New York City, at such venues as The Deer Head Inn, The Blue Note, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, and Alice Tully Hall. He is the recipient of a Downbeat Soloist Award and two ASCAP Young Jazz Composers awards.

David teaches both classical repertoire and jazz improvisation, as well as ear training, theory, and composition. Lessons emphasize developing healthy body alignment, to make playing more enjoyable and to allow your own musical voice to blossom with ease.

David is available to travel to teach in your home.

I am looking for intermediate and advanced adult students who are really interested in piano art and want to improve their musical skills in different areas, such as piano technique, performing style, pedaling and sound production. Also help piano students meet technical difficulties in performing piano pieces of the Romantic period.
                   Testimonial
Although I started playing the piano at five, I took formal lessons for only a few years before I gave it up. I continued to play “on and off” over the years. In my first lesson with Zinovy, he immediately replaced the little Haydn sonata I had brought with a Chopin Polonaise. I did not think I could play it, but to my astonishment, and with his help, I did. This pattern has continued over the years. With Zinovy’s help, I have been able to play pieces, that in my wildest dreams, I never thought I could, including: Liszt, St Paul Walking On The Waves (Legend #2); Chopin Ballade #3 in A Flat Major, and Fantasie Impromptu, Op. 66, C# Minor; and Prokofiev, Suggestion Diabolique, Op. 4, No.4.
Zinovy has a unique ability to spot technical errors almost instantly and show you how to fix them, including devising alternate fingerings to suit your hand until one really works. This is especially true with extremely difficult pieces. He taught me technical “tricks” to help me play Liszt. His sense of style, pedaling, musical phrasing and tone quality is profound and sophisticated. Simply put, he has transformed my playing.
