I have been fortunate in my career in music to have recorded and toured with many incredibly talented artists including The Rolling Stones, The Allman Brothers Band,  Eric Clapton, George Harrison, John Mayer and a host of other rock superstars.

All these years I've had fans, musicians, and teachers constantly ask me " how can I learn to play like that"?

Well, here's how! I'm pleased and proud to introduce you to  www.irocku.com. Along with other "with it" musicians and instructors, I've put together a website to share with you what I have learned over the years. Whether you are a precocious 5 year old or an music-loving adult, an absolute beginner or an advanced player, irocku will teach you how to rock.  Our hands-on instruction includes viewing of the songs, technique exercises, charts and more.

We all know that music enriches our lives and helps develop other skills…and is just plain fun…so go ahead, give it a try!

Start rockin’!

Cheers,

Chuck

Since my childhood, music has always been my passion. Thus, my passion for music, has led me to travel to France, Italy, Spain, Germany, and the United States to study music. When I came to NY, I started to study Jazz seriously. Ever since, I knew that the purpose of learning and acquiring technical skills was to be able to express our hearts: our innermost feelings and thoughts. Music is a way to communicate with listeners without words. Based on that concept, in my lessons, I teach music theory, techniques, music appreciation, lives of the composers, sight reading, rhythm patterns, ear training, improvisation, etc... I also explore other kinds of music, such as Japanese traditional music. I have a beautiful piano, a professional electric piano, and a keyboard in my home studio. When students are ready, we play duets or ensemble. With 15+ years of experience, I believe that everyone can learn and appreciate the beauty of music.

Affordable Pianist in New York!

As a classically trained pianist, I know how hard it is to find a great teacher at a great price. And as a performer, I know it's hard to find a reliable rehearsal pianist that will cost less than my rent. I begrudgingly began playing the piano at a tender age of 5, only to find that my parents WERE doing me a favor. I trained for 11 years playing for all occasions ranging from classical festivals, weddings, and accompanying singers. I began teaching students ages 6-12 during high school and continued accompanying through college at Belmont University. I now have a solid 10 years of teaching experiencing at various levels and age groups. I have a home studio with a full, upright piano and I am also available to travel (homes, rehearsal studios, etc).

Have you never taken piano lessons before?  Did you stop playing but want to resume lessons? Or do you want to play a particular tune or learn how to play while singing? If this sounds like you, I believe I can help!

I studied classical piano and theory with notable musicians and teachers privately and at Columbia University. I developed a keen ability to shape talent from years of training, performing, teaching, and working with the head of music programs to conduct admissions interviews and student performances.

Students find that I am a teacher with a vibrant, warm personality who ensures that they have a firm understanding of the following: fundamentals of theory; how to efficiently learn, practice and perform a piece; and a style of playing that minimizes tension and produces beautiful sound. After 6 months, they should have sound knowledge of all of these.

My studio locations are in Chelsea and Midtown.

I have worked with students as young as 4 years of age to adults over 50 years of age. I have also taught students whom I was their first piano teacher and I have worked with advanced students who participated in piano competitions and exams, such as ABRSM.

I am a patient teacher who strives to motivate my students to give their best whether they are in a lesson or performing in a concert. I believe that talent is overrated...that ANYONE can learn how to play the piano. Students studying with me will learn determination, self-discipline, patience, courage to learn new skills, and experience the joy of piano playing.

Testimonies:

"Rosanna Buchs is an excellent piano teacher. She is a highly skilled professional. She is patient, understands how to teach and motivate young students. She is able to understand Katerina's musical interests and passion and incorporates it into her lessons. As a piano player myself, I wish I could have studied under Rosanna's guidance as a child. "

- Trienet, mother of Katerina, 12 years old

“Rosanna has been teaching my daughter piano for the past two years and we have been extremely happy. Rosanna maintains the delicate balance of being a kind and patient teacher while still challenging her students. Rosanna works with each students' musical interests and encourages students to suggest pieces they would like to play. My daughter was thrilled when Rosanna helped her learn a familiar Dvorak piece from an old lullaby CD.”

Piano Teacher, Composer and Pianist, Edward Nemirovsky Classical Music and Jazz. For students of all ages. From beginners to advanced.

Piano lessons, Theory of Music, Music Composition, Jazz Harmony and improvisation. Studio lessons, In-Home lessons,

Edward Nemirovsky Piano Teacher and Composer in New York City, NYC, Manhattan, Holds a Master’s degree in Music. More than 35 years of professional experience in pedagogy at all levels and as a piano teacher. A professional composer and pianist. Genres include symphonic, instrumental, chamber music, music for voice and solo instruments, children’s music, theatrical music and film scores. Film Scores by Edward Nemirovsky were presented at many international film festivals.

My method for teaching piano playing differs radically from music lessons given at public schools. It is traditional and similar to the method used in the previous musical period in Europe where the traditions of classical music were established. One of the clearest distinguishing features of my teaching method is individual work with a specific student rather than a group of students. It is this individual approach to the unique character of a given student that constitutes the very crux of my methodology. In my opinion, only by using this method is it possible to open up the world of the highly intellectual art of classical music for students.

The techniques I use for teaching adults students consist of the following: - A patient and considerate approach to the individual characteristics and age of the student. - The search for a special technique for each individual student. - A selection of a repertoire reflecting the musical interest of the specific student including a broad selection of musical styles: classical, popular, jazz, etc. - As necessary, the technical performance of each musical composition can be specially simplified by professional musicians giving a beginning student the ability to perform any popular classical piece or modern song as he or she wishes. - “Easy to understand” method for learning Piano, Theory of music, Music Composition, Orchestration techniques, Jazz Harmony progressions and improvisation.

We all have a little dream, but we always put it off to the distant future. We're just too busy! Life is slipping by in of pursuit of money. There is no room even for this little dream. I am telling you that there is room for this dream. Do something about it now, today!

Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is based on one basic principle: we are first human beings and then musicians.  Every human being is different and for that we need to know him to understand how to make him become a better musician.

The motivation comes from the deep knowledge of the student; what are his favourite things, what he loves and what he doesn’t love, how are their parents, is he poetic, is he energetic, is he intimate or maybe extrovert. Knowing what he wants and what he needs to keep developing as a person and musician. Teaching is an adventure not only for the student, but also for the teacher. And this adventure has to be based on mutual respect and friendship.

All this knowledge has to be used to determine repertoire. And this is one of my favourite things to do; discovering what the student needs at a certain period of his formation: maybe Mozart? Or maybe his personality would suit more some Beethoven. Oh! Now it’s time for some Chopin. Or this kid is perfect for the music of Brahms.

I don’t believe in pedagogy that is based on negativity, where the student fears the teacher. I believe in the pedagogy that extracts beautiful music from the student through expressivity, through tone colors and the discovery of beautiful sounds on the piano.

If you are interested I can take students to my home in Inwood, where I have a Steinway.  I'm also more than willing to do housecalls.

At the Chelsea Arts Music Studio, I specialize in teaching beginning and intermediate piano students how to sightread with ease, how to effectively analyze each piece of music they encounter, and, most importantly, how to trust themselves as a player and musician.

My name is Sara, and it is my goal as a teacher to make sure that each of my students, from young children to adults, approaches the piano with grace, freedom, and joy. I am a nurturig and caring instructor that seeks to help students establish a lifelong love for the piano and for music. Through gentle encouragement, lively discussions about musical ideas and patterns, and the intelligent application of technique, students will become excellent sightreaders of classical and popular music, and will maintain an enthusiastic and ongoing interest in the piano.

Students at the Chelsea Arts Music Studio learn proper position at the bench, easy and graceful hand technique, effective sightreading strategies, beginning to advanced music theory, and popular piano styles. I work with students on all styles of music, including pop and rock lead sheets, but I guide each of my students in playing classical pieces as well, in order to encourage independence of the fingers, good sightreading of the grand staff, and familiarity with musical motives and cadences. I strongly emphasize the building of a solid sense of rhythm and make sure all of my students gain familiarity with many different kinds of rhythmic patterns.

The focus on music theory, sightreading, rhythm, hand technique, and popular and classical piano styles makes the Chelsea Arts Music Studio the place for gaining a healthy and complete music education.

Please go to ChelseaArtsMusicStudio.weebly.com to find out more about my piano methods, and please feel free to contact me for testimonials or recommendations from current and former students!

Here is an abbreviated performance bio:

Described by the American Record Guide as a pianist whose playing “was as smooth as velvet,” David Shimoni has performed extensively throughout the United States. He has appeared in recital in New York’s Zankel Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Museum of Modern Art. He has also performed at the Barns at Wolf Trap, the Chicago Cultural Center, the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, and the Dallas Museum of Art.

Born in Chapel Hill, NC, Mr. Shimoni attended the North Carolina School of the Arts during high school and earned a B.A. from Swarthmore College.  He then received the Vladimir Horowitz Scholarship to study at the Juilliard School, where he obtained masters degrees in both solo and collaborative performance. Mr. Shimoni was the first-prize winner of the National Federation of Music Clubs’ Young Artist Auditions, which sponsored two years of recitals throughout the United States. He has been a guest artist at the Chautauqua, Brevard, Moab, Foothills, and Rockport music festivals, and his performances have been broadcast on radio stations WGBH-Boston, WFMT-Chicago, and WQXR-New York.

Now about my teaching:

I am an avid teacher. I have had a private studio in New York City for fourteen years, during which I have taught children, college students, amateurs, and Grammy-award winning professionals.  Regardless of the age or experience that a student brings, my goal is to help make piano playing personally enriching and musically satisfying.

A student’s physical coordination at the piano is a key component of the ability to play beautifully and with enjoyment. In my own playing, I have gained a lot from the Alexander Method and the Taubman approach, both physiologically based sets of principles that help to free pianists from strain and technical limitations. Using these principles and a musical sense that has come from working with a wide variety of great musicians, I help my students to attain new levels of facility and musical expressiveness. Lessons consist of work on theory, technique, ear training, and sight reading as well as pieces.

I have been on the staff of The Juilliard School, Brooklyn College, the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, the Ravinia Steans Institute, and Trevor Day School in New York. I have also given master classes and educational workshops at schools throughout the United States and at the World Piano Pedagogy Conference. In order to give my students valuable opportunities to share their music, I put together informal performances for them and prepare them for events sponsored by the Leschetizky Association and the Piano Teachers Congress of New York.

I invite you to contact me for a discounted trial lesson at any of the locations where I teach.

Dear parent / potential piano student!

Thank you for visiting my page. A quick word about myself: I am an active collaborative pianist and an avid teacher. I am Israeli, lived in London for 7 years and have recently relocated to New York. I have graduate degrees (both with honors) from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, where I was also working for the last 2 years.

I have over 15 years of experience teaching music and other subject matters to children, adolescents, college/university students and adults. I have devised musical activities for toddlers ages 2-5, taught piano privately for 15 years to students of all ages, from all walks of life, students with different needs and aspirations. I have prepared students for all grades of the ABRSM exams and for college entry auditions. In addition I have taught students with cognitive disorders in junior and high school in Jerusalem and was also teaching at the Hebrew University and tutoring at the Royal Holloway College, University of London.

I love teaching. I enjoy and value the one to one relationship with a student. I am happy I can share and pass on my knowledge and expertise, and I truly hope to become a meaningful person in my student’s life.

I am classically trained and strive to provide my students with the best foundation which they can later apply to any genre, be it classical, jazz, rock, pop or perhaps their own composition.  I care about correct hand position, good technique and sense of rhythm, notation and sight reading. I am patient, demanding and supportive at the same time, adjusting to the ability demonstrated by each student. I am attentive to the student’s musical taste and inclination, but I will also try to suggest ‘contrasting’ repertoire as means to expand and cultivate musicality and music appreciation.

There are many studies praising the benefits of playing an instrument. It is a unique activity which combines cognitive, motoric and emotional aspects. Challenge and reward are two sides of the same coin. Practice and persistence are essential as there is always something new to learn and more technical difficulties to overcome, but regardless of your level you always express yourself through your playing and perhaps delight others.

It is never too late to start and hopefully music making will accompany you all your life.

I speak English, Hebrew and Russian and happy to teach in any of these languages. I will be more than happy to refer you to my current students for recommendations.

Do e-mail or call for further information!

I am looking forward to hear from you!

Miriam

I trained at Berklee College of Music, New York University, as well Manhattan School of Music and achieved a Master of Music Degree.

I teach Jazz as well as Classical, Pop, and Blues with emphasis on technique and theory for any ability and age level. I have been teaching for more than ten years.

Mastering piano is certainly a challenge. It takes time, dedication, discipline and lots of hard work and practice. There are no "genius musicians." Behind any successful artist is a lot of perseverance and dedication to practice.

If one is determined and works hard, one will become a great pianist. I can guarantee it. This approach however, is not for everyone. I also believe that music should be fun. Even if you don't have the ambition to become a professional that's alright. For adults, music can be a wonderful emotional stress reliever. For children the piano can play a part in early childhood development. Learning the piano also provides a sense of great accomplishment for people at all levels of ability. My teaching is depends on students need. I'm very flexible and patient.

It's fun to play the piano!  Let's make Joy, Harmony, and Smile!

-Veenu, mother of Kareena, 7 years old

I have over 35 years experience in music. I teach how to play piano from beginning levels to professional levels. You can learn how to read music from beginning levels to professional levels. Learn how to play classical music, Blues, R & B, Popular piano, how to write songs on piano, how to produce music using protools and how to sing and play the piano also. I have been teaching music full time over 25 years.

If you want to learn how to play by ear I can teach that also. Adults and children are welcomed. I also teach the acoustic and electric guitars from beginning levels to professional levels. Learn to read guitar music and play by ear.

I also produce instructional DVDs which are sold on our website and on amazon. Some of them are shown here.

If you want to learn piano for yourself or to play in a band or to play in your church or to produce songs to finish product or only want to learn how to write songs I can prepare you for that also.

On Bcat TV, I am spreading the love of music, giving back to New Yorkers, helping those who for whatever reason can't afford to pay for music lessons. This is my FREE gift to you. You can see me on Time Warner channel 34, Cablevision channel 67, RCN on channel 82 and Verizon channel 42 every Tuesdays between 7 pm and 8 pm. On Tv you can learn how to read music, play the piano and the guitar.

I can also prepare you for any music exams.
I use a wide variety of music teaching systems that are installed on two computers, I also use the traditional teaching method that most piano teachers use and an interactive piano system which I developed over the years this gives my students a huge advantage over other piano students taking lessons else where. My students enjoy music more and better yet they make faster progress any other methods.
Last but not least I am also the founder of Octo School of Music in France.

In my piano studio I am offering one hour free trial lessons. I don't travel to teach students come any time morning or after noons or evenings. I teach also on weekends.
