I have a Master of Music degree from New York University, where I served as an adjunct faculty member from 2007-2009. I have taught students of all ages for 8 years and I give concerts regularly throughout the city. I have played in various venues including CAMI Hall, The National Arts Club, Tenri Cultural Institute, The Frederick Loewe Theater (NYU), the Black Box Theater (NYU), and Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall.
Although I am a performer, I love to teach and share music with others. I am very articulate and patient, and I can teach students of any level: I will definitely give beginners a solid foundation in all aspects of piano playing, and I can help correct any pianistic problems and further develop more advanced students. I also judge the NYSSMA competition every year and can give kids the preparation they need to achieve a high score. I want to help all my students reach their full potential no matter what age they begin, and I do my best to make learning the piano an enjoyable and worthwhile experience.

Hello. Thanks for having a look at my page. I'm a patient and experienced teacher. Lots of professional credits. Lots of education. I have a console upright acoustic piano in my east village apt where we will have our lessons. Also have a website and online music samples and videos for you to get to know me before deciding to make an appointment.
You are never TOO old to start having some fun with the piano ... And if you had a couple of piano lessons long ago but barely remember anything, that is fine just fine ... I love students like that ... We can easily shine up that dirty diamond ... That distant memory is enough to build the new foundation on ... But this time with your clever adult brain putting the pieces together.
If you had a few lessons years ago and regret never continuing, here is a GREAT opportunity. If you are already advanced on the piano but want to learn to jam and improvise and stretch out your musical vocabulary, then this is a GREAT opportunity. If you have never played piano at all and are curious how to work that magic with your fingers, then this is a GREAT opportunity.
I offer barter opportunities to help make it easier for students to get on that beautiful path of music. I've had very good experiences with this in the past. Bartering can be an excellent way to get started if you are on the fence about moving forward with some lessons. Ultimately the best and most useful barter for me is just cash, but I am very flexible with part cash part barter type of situations. My normal rates are $40/half hour $60/45 minutes and $75/hour. Whatever you offer to barter with should be something of value that you have in abundance that you can trade without straining yourself too much. So both sides feel they are getting fair and good deal.
Studying the piano is one of those multidimensional paths that has incredibly positive effects in more than one direction. The piano is truly a beautiful thing. The whole orchestra at your fingertips. Let's get to work!

I am a professional musician with over 7 years of full-time teaching experience. I've discovered the most important thing is to make piano lessons fun. My experience as an active performer and professional composer for film and media expand the depth and effectiveness of my teaching.
I teach a well-rounded music education program that focuses on reading music, performing, composing, improvisation, and music theory. My students learn to develop a relaxed and natural piano technique - preventing harmful habits or injury.
My student-centered teaching method allows students to play music they like and want to learn while incorporating a solid foundation of classic piano literature. I provide opportunities for parents to be involved in their child's piano lessons by recording and podcasting their weekly progress.
Please contact me to enroll in Fall piano lessons. More information is available on my website:
Here are some quotes from my students and parents:
“You have a true gift in working with children. Your patience, gentle persistence and praise give your students a safe environment to try new things. You have shown Claire that trying something new can be rewarding. As a result she has a new found confidence to experiment with music and try new things in other areas.” - Rusty W.
“BTW, Eli continues to really enjoy piano. There are many times when he'll just sit down to play with no prompting from me... which I value very highly. And I think much of this is a tribute to how enjoyable you make the whole process. So thanks.” - Julie S.
“Mike was creative and energetic and made the learning interesting and fun for our daughter. He is a born teacher -- engaging, excited, interested, and respectful of his students. We have pinched ourselves these last 3 years for finding such a wonderful teacher and person.” - Aimee W.
“You’ve been great for Bella, and we feel quite blessed to have had you for the last two years.” - Renee G. “...we are impressed with how much she has learned and with the fact that she actually likes to sit down and play the piano on her own.” - David B.
“By the way, we love the work Patrick has been doing with you.”
- Tana L.
“Eleanor is very happy with the pieces. She came up and told me about them right away. Thanks for finding a solution that she is content with.” - Missy B.

Are you considering studying piano?
There are lots of teachers out there to choose from, so whether you want lessons for your child or whether you want them for yourself, consider learning from someone who has made a specialty of teaching both children and adults to play piano and read music. I am willing to provide the flexibility busy kids and working adults need: I do not insist on a regular weekly schedule with rigid lesson times, and compared to most other teachers, I am very generous in regard to last-minute cancellations and rescheduling.
As a teacher, I customize each student's course of study to help them achieve their goals as a musician and pianist. I believe that anyone can play the piano well with the right teacher helping them. Actually, most musical concepts are only mysterious or difficult until they are explained properly and practiced.
I will help you learn to play any style you want, but I also provide my students with a comprehensive education in all aspects and styles of music, including basic jazz improvisation skills and music theory.
I am one of the longest established teachers in Brooklyn with over 20 years of experience. I am an active performer, with a local following and reputation as a teacher, pianist and composer. I have a bachelor's degree in music education as well as a master's and Ph.D. degrees in music. And, I am the only fulltime private teacher in Brooklyn with significant college-level teaching experience.
Make an investment in something valuable: yourself.

With experience teaching privately to students ages 4 and up, including many adult students, I have continued the musicianship-first teaching philosophy that I was fortunate enough to have been brought up on. While recognizing that not all students who start piano lessons have the intent or interest in becoming concert pianists, my teaching style reaches out to each individual student, with the goal of finding the aspects of music that speak to them and their personal interests. Having performing experience in a variety of mediums and across many genres, has proven very helpful in finding that unique connection that keeps my students not only interested, but enthusiastic about music and the piano.
I am a young, enthusiastic, personable, and down-to-earth pianist and teacher in Brooklyn. Whether you are looking to better yourself in classical, jazz, blues, gospel, pop, all of the above, or something else entirely, send me an email and come by for a completely FREE trial lesson. There's no reason you should feel at risk when trying out a piano teacher. I completely understand and recognize that not all students and teachers are perfect matches for each other. So let's find out how well we work together (for free.)
You can read more about my background, schooling, experience, and what I'm up to now as a full-time working musician in NYC by visiting my webpage www.poddability.com/adam Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. Have you hit a wall in your playing?
Are you experiencing anxiety, stubborn issues, blocks or technical problems that are keeping you from playing at your potential?
Often the solution to musical problems lies within the music itself, and discovering a new way of hearing it, thinking about it, being inside it.
Sometimes the problems are rooted in habits that are hard to work through.
I can guide you to a new relationship and approach to music in general and the piano in particular based on my own experience and research.
If you love music and you love the piano you can reconnect - you can teach your hands to sing.
I am classically trained, but have experience in all genres from salsa to showtunes, and with students of all ages.
I have been mentored by Madeline Bruser, author of The Art of Practicing (see her ad in NYC listings). Serious and motivated beginners are welcome.
