Have you hit a wall in your playing?
Are you experiencing anxiety, stubborn issues, blocks or technical problems that are keeping you from playing at your potential?
Often the solution to musical problems lies within the music itself, and discovering a new way of hearing it, thinking about it, being inside it.
Sometimes the problems are rooted in habits that are hard to work through.
I can guide you to a new relationship and approach to music in general and the piano in particular based on my own experience and research.
If you love music and you love the piano you can reconnect - you can teach your hands to sing.
I am classically trained, but have experience in all genres from salsa to showtunes, and with students of all ages.
I have been mentored by Madeline Bruser, author of The Art of Practicing (see her ad in NYC listings). Serious and motivated beginners are welcome.

Hello. Thanks for having a look at my page. I'm a patient and experienced teacher. Lots of professional credits. Lots of education. I have a console upright acoustic piano in my east village apt where we will have our lessons. Also have a website and
online music samples and videos for you to get to know me before deciding to make an appointment.
You are never TOO old to start having some fun with the piano ... And if you had a couple of piano lessons long ago but barely remember anything, that is fine just fine ... I love students like that ... We can easily shine up that dirty diamond ... That distant memory is enough to build the new foundation on ... But this time with your clever adult brain putting the pieces together.
If you had a few lessons years ago and regret never continuing, here is a GREAT opportunity. If you are already advanced on the piano but want to learn to jam and improvise and stretch out your musical vocabulary, then this is a GREAT opportunity. If you have never played piano at all and are curious how to work that magic with your fingers, then this is a GREAT opportunity.
I offer barter opportunities to help make it easier for students to get on that beautiful path of music. I've had very good experiences with this in the past. Bartering can be an excellent way to get started if you are on the fence about moving forward with some lessons. Ultimately the best and most useful barter for me is just cash, but I am very flexible with part cash part barter type of situations. My normal rates are $40/half hour $60/45 minutes and $75/hour. Whatever you offer to barter with should be something of value that you have in abundance that you can trade without straining yourself too much. So both sides feel they are getting fair and good deal.
Studying the piano is one of those multidimensional paths that has incredibly positive effects in more than one direction. The piano is truly a beautiful thing. The whole orchestra at your fingertips. Let's get to work!

One-on-One Instructions
The most effective learning occurs with individual attention. Lesson lengths are half hour, forty-five minutes, or an hour.
Music Theory
All students are required to learn about music theory as it is part of the lessons. Learning theory can enhance piano playing and help students gain appreciation for music.
Ear-training/Sight-reading
It is critical to train the ears as well as learning how to play at sight. When the student is ready, the teacher will incorporate this part into the lessons.
Music Appreciation
This ties in and solidifies learning acquired during lessons. Students will learn how to listen and appreciate a variety of music during this time.
Workshop/Recitals
Performance workshops are held to provide additional public playing opportunities for students. An annual recital takes place at the end of the school year.
Royal School of Music Exam
Students that are interested in music exams are encouraged to take this exam. The studio maintains a 95% passing rate.
Resourceful Music Library
Massive piano literature/CD is made accessible to students whenever possible.
Supplementary Materials
Additional worksheets/piano music are handed out at NO ADDITIONAL COST! Music games are always enjoyed and loved by everyone!
Computer/Technology games--Not only will you get one on one private piano instruction, but you will learn piano through technology as well!

I have a BM from New York University and I am currently an Adjunct Piano Instructor at NYU. I have been teaching students of all ages for 10 years. I give concerts regularly and I have played in various venues throughout the city, including CAMI Hall, The National Arts Club, Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall, and internationally, including The Composer's Union in St. Petersburg, Russia.
I am very articulate and patient, and I can teach students of any level: I will give beginners a solid foundation in all aspects of piano playing, and I can further develop more advanced students. I also judge the NYSSMA competition regularly and can give kids the preparation they need to achieve a high score.
Even if you are an adult beginner, I make sure you really understand the fundamentals. It is necessary to know these things to become a good pianist, or good at anything--and it is not too late to learn and develop, even as an adult! I want to help all my students reach their full potential no matter what age they begin, and I do my best to make learning the piano an enjoyable and worthwhile experience.
Lessons available in my studio or in your home.
