Austin's Piano Service
Austin King, Piano Tuner/Technician
86 Linden Ave.

US
Tel: 862-226-3927

Welcome!

I provide the utmost quality, care and value of service that your piano deserves. I am a dedicated craftsman, tuner and technician. I am also a pianist who understands the relevance of good feel, touch and tone. It is my mission to make every piano I work on perform to its optimal capacity, within the client's budget, so that when my work is complete the player can focus on what's most important: making music without the headache of having to play on an inadequate instrument.

I look forward to servicing all of your piano needs! I perform the following services:

Piano Tunings- My tunings are stable, accurate and reasonably priced. Minor repairs and adjustments are included with the cost of the tuning.

Pitch Raises- When the piano is not tuned regularly, especially after 3 years, more often than not a pitch raise is needed so the piano will remain stable at A-440 pitch (the international tuning standard). If the piano is a quarter tone or more flat then a pitch raise is in order. Your piano has thousands of pounds of pressure applied to the metal plate from the tension of the strings. It is this tension of the strings that pulls the pitch back down after the first initial tuning. It is for this reason that we must raise the pitch above A-440 so when the strings settle we can then perform a second fine tuning. For extreme cases, a whole tone or more flat, it can take up to three tunings to get the piano to stay at A-440.

Pitch Lowering- Same concept as a pitch raise, a pitch lowering is needed when the piano is a quarter tone sharp or more

Piano Repair- including sticking keys, broken strings, ringing dampers (notes), buzzes, clicks, squeaks, double-striking notes, hammers blocking into strings, pedal problems and more

Piano Regulation- micro-adjustments are made to the keys, action (hammer and whippen assembly) and trapwork (pedals) to ensure optimal piano performance and touch

Hammer Shaping- by sanding the hammers we expose a fresh layer of felt, eliminate the string grooves and restore the hammer to its proper shape to deliver optimal tone

Piano Cleaning- For complete cleaning service, the piano is cleaned inside and out from the exterior case to the keys, soundboard, bridges, strings, action and cavity. Anti-bacterial odor control is used when necessary.

Key Rebushing- The keys on your piano pivot on the balance rail pin like a seesaw in the middle. The front rail pin holds the key vertically in place, in addition to determining the key dip. On each side of the hole in the key are felt bushings that fit over the keypins like a glove. Over time these bushings can deteriorate, thus causing a wobbly, uncontrollable feel to the keys. For this procedure all 88 keys have the felts removed from the mortises and replaced to play like new.

Keytop Replacement- Over time keytops can become chipped, worn, discolored and can even fall off. Older keytops that use ivory are especially susceptible to chipping and forming jagged sharp edges. I can have an entire set of keytops replaced within a week's time at a reasonable cost.

Bridge Repair- The bridge plays a crucial role in the sound of the piano. It is the job of the bridge to connect the source of the sound (the strings) to the amplifier of the sound (the soundboard). The strings travel across the bridges to form downbearing. Bridges can become cracked due to years of string tension causing annoying buzzing sounds that drastically alter the tone of the instrument. Bridges can be repaired on site or in extreme cases be sent out to the supply houses for duplication.

Piano Evaluation

Purchase Consultation- if you need a new piano, but don't know what to look for, I am happy to do the research and look at the pianos myself to make the best decision for my clients (within the budget of course)

Accreditations:

Graduated with honors from the Randy Potter School of Piano Technology

Associate Member of the Piano Technicians Guild

Apprenticeships with several qualified technicians

Clients: Homes, Schools, Churches, Restaurants, Businesses, Recording Studios, Hotels, Concert Tunings and more...
